National Day Gathering!!
Venue: Seik Yen's place
Session 1 - Sushi Lunch Buffet
Attendance: Chunky, Chengli (aka Ah Neah), Major and Jocelyn, Crystel, and (of course) Seik Yen, and me! (I was late! as usual)
Session 2 - Hainanese Chicken Rice (National Day dish according to Today newspaper I think)
Attendance: Ah Neah (the cook), Kaisheng, Major and Jocelyn, Raymond and Aijuan, Crystel, Seik Yen and me!
Had an interesting day at Seik Yen's place. We had a gathering there. Not very sure what was the occasion, probably cos Ah Neah was back from France.
Morning we had "Yen can cook, so can you" sushi making session. They prepared the ingredients and make all sorts of sushi. The ingredients prepared includes unagi (eel), tamago (egg), corn, crabsticks, shredded crabsticks, cucumber, carrot, mushrooms, and many many more stuffs, which I couldn't recognised. Oops. I was late, that was why I didn't know what were there, but the whole round dining table was filled with ingredients all over. My first time seeing a home-made sushi session. Pretty cool, though the down part of it was.. there was alot of washing to do at the end of it. (But I was not involved in any of the washing.. hehe.. *lazy bummer/free loader*) So many dishes cos they said there wasn't time earlier on, to wash and re-use any cooking utensils or cutlery.
When I reached around 1, I think, there was an ongoing violin elementary class for the guys, while Jocelyn and Crystel continued to use up the rest of the ingredients. For the session, Whoever learned how to play "Mary Had a Little Lamb" will deem as graduates of the elementary class today. Haha..
At the end of Session 1, the two "trainees" of the sushi making session, Joselyn and Crystel, lined and displayed their sushi nicely on each sushi plate, and took photos with their finished products. Smiles of satisfaction!
After the session, while Chunky needed to leave to meet his Joselyn for "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" in town, Ah Neah, Major and I went to a nearby NTUC to get a chicken. Ah Neah was very keen and wanted to try out this instant recipe for Hainanese Chicken Rice. If it works, he would buy a few packets back to France, and cook there. We told ourselves to trust and believe in our chef tonight, that we would be able to enjoy a nice meal. Our alternative, we thought, would be more sushi, if the instant recipe failed. (Note that I said if the recipe fail, not the chef. lolx) It was quite simple instructions. Boil the water with the ingredients, and put the chicken in and cook for 45mins, and there's the chicken! As for the cooking of rice, I was in the living room watching the NDP, so I missed the preparation for it.
End result?
Edible, tasty, successful Hainanese Chicken Rice.
Thumbs up for a first time trial!
It was a Happy Gathering! Had fun!! Looking forward next gathering... but don't know when will be the next..
