The Interview

Yesterday, Jossie and I went to Singapore Pools at Selegie for interview for call centre for taking bets during the World Cup period.

Filled up the application form. The application form came along with a list of Q&As about soccer and soccer betting -Strike and I forgot what's the other..
Funny Jossie said, "I know the answers! I tell you!" Cos she already did the Q&A on the other day. So I merely copied down what she say.

Waited for quite some time, those people who came in at the same time as me already left. Even those that came later than me, had been called out for group interview. Getting impatient, I walked to the lady in front, and asked if they had misplaced my application form. She said that the other interviewer was holding on to mine, and he walked out for a while. I was like.. Argh!

Then after a while.. this Johnny look alike walked into the hall with my application form, and asked for me.
Finally my turn! I followed him into a small room.
That's really very weird, cos most people were being interviewed at the main hall area.
And most of them was either being interviewed 2 at a go or 3.
My interview was one to one!

Interviewer (Him)
Interviewee (Me)

As the door closes behind me...

Him: "You waited for very long?"
Me : "No lah.. Eh.. Abit lah.. Quite long ah..."


Him: "Do you have experience in any call centre before?"
Me : "No."
(He gave a frown.)
Me : "I never worked at call centre before. But did a week or two of telemarketing before."
(He looked unconvinced.)
Me : "Last time do data entry clerk also will pick up customers' phonecalls and what not."
Him: "Pick up phonecalls only mah.. I also got answer customers' phonecalls sometimes."
Me : "Yah lah.. Precisely.. Who never answer phonecalls? Everyone sure to have talked over the phone before right?!"
(Both of us laughed. Then at the box that says Call centre, he actually wanted to write a tick with a comment 'customer service', but after spelling customer halfway, he cancelled it.)


Him: "Any days that you will be away for holidays or not available?"
Me : "Yes. I'm going overseas on.. Eh.."
Him: "Huh?! You don't know the dates?"
(I nearly wanted to pull out my planner le!)
Me : "Aiya.. Forgot mah.. Eh.. 10-12 Jun!"
Him: "Wah.. It falls on the world cup period lei.."
Me : "Aiya.. It's only 3 days.. Can one lah.." (Tsk tsk)
(Then he wrote down the dates.)
Him: "Any other days?"
Me : "Eh.. Can't think of any at the moment."


Next next box. "Pleasant voice"
Him: "Ok. Do you think you have a pleasant voice?"
Me : "Huh? How about you? Do you think I have one?"
Him: "Actually, our policy is that you are required to sing a song, for us to judge."
(I was super duper stunned.)
Me : "Huh?! Are you sure?!"
(I gave him a weird face. And after a short pause, and staring at each other...)
Him: "Just kidding lah!!"
Me : "Wah! You bluff me?!"
(Then he wrote a tick in the pleasant voice box.)


Then I don't remember how come we talked about clubbing..
Him: "So you go clubbing?!"
Me : "Yes!"
Him: "So where you normally club?"
Me : "Hmmm...."
Him: "Go zouk?"
Me : "Yah.. Got go zouk loh.."
Him: "Mambo jambo nights?!"
Me : "Yah.. You never go meh?!"
Him: "Got lah! My brother (used to) work there as PR" (I can't rem used to, or still working)
Me : "Wah.. So you always get in for free lah!"
Him: "Of course! My brother is the PR lei!"
Me : "Ok loh.." (What can I say?! People yaya papaya le..)


After all the 'For Official Use' boxes were filled up with ticks...
Him: "Do you place bets?"
Me : "Eh.. 4-D, toto.. I know abit.. But soccer, only my brother will bet."
Him: "Illegal betting, is it?"
Me : "Huh?! No lah! Singapore pools lah!"
(I was thinking.. Got also won't tell lah..!)
Him: "You sure not illegal?!"
Me : "Duh! Yes... No illegal betting!"


Him: "Do you know anything about soccer?!"
Me : "Yah.. A fair bit..."
(He looked at me with disbelief)
Him: "How long is one soccer match?!"
Me : "90 minutes!"
Him: "How many people are there in a team?!"
Me : "11!"
Him: "Red card means?"
Me : ""Out!"
(Wah lau.. luckily for the Q&A section to fill in got say abt the no of players. If not, I would have forgotten, or at least need sometime to ponder!)


Him: "Just to let you know that even if you clear this audition, the 1+day of training is as important. Cos you will be required to muli-task, answering phonecalls and placing bets at the same time."
Me : "So can still be kicked out if one fails to perform up to requirement lah!"
Him: " Yes. But don't worry, cos most of our customers will already have an account with us, and the account is linked up with their bank account."
Me : "Oh.. I see.. So just need to key in the account and place bets loh..."
Him: "Yes. Cos it's world cup period, so the bets may vary. Some people, upon hearing that they are going to handle a big sum of money, may panick."
Me : "Wah.. Can't afford to key wrong bets man.."
Him: "Yah loh.."


Him: "You know the pay for this job?!"
Me : "Yah.. $8 per hour right?!"
Him: "No! $6 only!"
(I twitched my eyebrows a little.)
Me : "Huh?!" (In disbelief)
Him: "No lah.. $8 lah.." (Giving me a cheeky smile..)
Me : "Wah.. See lah! You bluff me again!! Hmpf!"

Him: "The working hours, we normally start from 7.50am onwards, till the time when the match starts. So if the match starts at 3am, we stop at 3am. We don't receive anymore bets once the match starts. Some people may want to bet at 8am cos the odds maybe higher as compared to the later timings."

Him: "Ok.. That's about all that I want to say. Do you have any questions?"

Me : "Yes. About the working hours. Is there any fixed number hours you have to clocked per week or what?"
Him: "At the moment, no. Cos we will try to schedule everyone such that everyone will have equally working hours."
Me : "So let's say start work at 8am. You work all the way till late night?!"
Him: "No lah.. Probably work around 8 hours a day loh.. You want to work whole day meh? Don't you want to go club?"
Me : "Yah man.. Work whole day in this place, tiring man.."
Him: "Here not bad wah.. Work until tired, we still have 2 massage chairs upstairs.."
Me : "Wah.. Serious ah?!"
Him: "Yah lah! Osim one some more..!"
(Laughs)

Lastly..
We ended off with both us asking the same thing..
"Do you have any other questions for me??"

Me : "I have no more questions at the moment. Do you have any questions for me?"
Him: "Nope. No more. If any of your friends interested, you can ask them to come for interview on Thursday, same time and place."
Me : "Okies!"

The interview finally ended.

I walked out of the room.
Joselyn was complaining that I was taking way too much time for my interview.
We finally could go shopping..

So blogders.. anyone interested, just go on Thursday after 2pm, ok?!

Edited to add this to tell my dear disciple..
I'm not hired okies?! And I'm very sure it was an interview!!
I still need to wait for them to call me up to go training..
If never call, I also LL.
