Backdated Singapore ROARING match..
Woah.. A very backdated one.
I just didn't post it cos of the Vday notice..
It wasn't too good a day to start with.
Couldn't flag cabbie in the morning...
Met some irritating minor difficulties finishing up my last bit of my FYP showcase in my lab...
Feeling lost at the NTU Career Fair..
Reaching the National Stadium at 7.50, instead of the pre-planned 6.30 or 7.
Well..
All and all..
It was a fantastic night..
My first ever LIVE soccer match...
And so happened to be the last match at the wonderful National Stadium.
All thanks to G for asking me watch the match together..
Luckily he didn't get the tix from Jalan Besar stadium.. The queue was woah!
He went to Choa Chu Kang stadium instead.. hohoho...
The last time I was here, was NDP'99, I was the cheerleader..
If anyone was still holding to the programme booklet..
It was me, with the close up at my face!!!
So fun.. So happy..
The only thing I didn't like was probably the oversized New Balance shoes..
Which isn't with me anymore, cos Yvonne borrowed it.. and that's it..
No return.. Just like my other brand new EaziLink card...
Well.. I don't really hate people...
Just that I remember things too clearly..
That they are just tagged with 'what happened', and nothing more..
No other emotions attached.. I hope.. hehe..
Yeap.. Back to the stadium....
Previously in the day, me and G had did our favourite activity prior soccer match...
A visit to Singapore Pools.
The bet was... 3.something, or 3...
When he asked me on what to bet..
I looked into the sky from his car..
That day my bro say, rainy weather, Singapore sure lose to Malaysia..
And it ended as a draw..
I looked at the sky again..
Today is a sunny day..
That means Singapore sure win!!
So I asked him to bet on Singapore win..
$50, and the return was $150.
Not too bad, just right to cover the loss in Malaysia match, and win that meagre sum..
The night was super cool and windy..
The stadium was flooded with reds.. reds.. and more reds..
Only that minor group of yellow, supporting Thailand..
I was so afraid that it might rain..
Lucky for G's cousin to 'chop' seats for us..
We were sitting at a not too bad position..
So coincidentally that it's at the same side as where I stood for NDP'99..
We reached in time, just enough for a quick toilet break..
And witness the march out of the two teams and sing the respective national anthem..
It was either Singaporeans only sing their national anthem in NDP after school days..
Or in better words, Singaporeans are just too excited over the match..
We all started cheering before the last verse was sung..
I just can't help it but broke into laughters.. and at the same time, embarassed.
The first half..
Was quite irritating..
There's quite alot of whistling from the Malaysia referee..
Awarding the possession to the Thailand..
The whole stadium was in tune to call 'referee kayu'
Another thing that was quite irritating..
Is that I don't understand why Singapore team kept wanting to pass among each other..
When they are already in the final third of the field, near the goal..
They should just whack and give a shot at the goal...
Attempt for goal is better than to lose the ball before any attempts...
Singapore scored the first goal..
Haha.. G bought special from SgPools, First Goal - Singapore..
That's about 10 odd dollars win for him, if not it's.. $20 odd? Can't remember...
The goal is like a never-say-die continuous whacking at the goal, before the ball actually went in...
The second half..
Thailand caught up with Singapore...
Erm.. Sitting at this side of the stadium doesn't mean I wana see all goals at this side, you know?
Then it came the amazing 81st or 82nd minute penalty awarded to Singapore.
It happened at the other end..
And it was too fast that most of us were caught unaware of what happened..
So funny.. The whole of the Thailand team walked out of the field in a puff..
The black black referee was so cool and firm about his decision!
It was a 10 to 15 minutes stop before the penalty was actually taken..
All the people in the stadium jeered at the Thailand for their so-called 'sportsmanship'
The funny people around me was jokingly saying..
'The Thais had to call back to their King and ask if they should carry on'
And speculations as to what the King will answer..
Was that they would face some sort of punishment if they just walk out like that..
Some sort of punishment.. I was thinking of spanking their butts.. hehe..
Not that it was some kinky act..
What came to my mind was the picture I saw last time, when Goh spank his wife over the NKF incident...
Oh well.. That's not the point.. hehe..
During this 10-15 minutes, the people in the stadium were frantically calling out to those in front of their TV watching the live telecast, checking out what actually happened. While those in front of their TV sets, was asking if there's any fight outbreak in the stadium itself.
G said it was the first time seeing such a thing happening.. And it's the Finals' first leg some more! SO exciting!!
After the Thais returned to the field, I was so worried that Singapore miss the penalty. If we had missed the penalty, the Thais will laugh at us for sure. We, the audience, stood close to each other, putting our arms around each other... All eyes on the goal... And.. it's a GOAL! We all jumped with joy..!! Woohoo!! So overjoyed that Singapore had won.. For a moment, G still thought the shot didn't go in... After the penalty, you could actually see that the Thai team wasn't playing anymore. I felt they lacked the determination and the spirit, as compared to other countries' football team. Not only skills matter, you know... The mental power is as important, you know?!
Well.. Interestingly..
I've learned one Malay word from this match..
"Butoh!"
The crowd just loved to shout "Butoh" at any unfairness towards the Singapore team.
So much so that..
The Indian uncle behind us who entertained those around him with hell lotsa funny jokes throughout the match said.. "Anything also 'Butoh!' We might as well have our pledge as 'We the citizens of Butoh' " *lol*
All cos the stupid delay.. I thought we could go makan or something. The match ended quite late, 10.30 or so... G had got full day lesson on the next day.. And both of us were already dead beat.. And Daniel and Qida also didn't feel like having any supper, so.. all of us headed home lor...
Anyway, it was such an interesting and exciting match! Woohoo! Definitely a memorable first live soccer match for me!
